Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Privacy and transparency are fundamental pillars of a good user experience. This Privacy Policy explains in a clear and straightforward manner how your data is handled when you visit this professional portfolio (hereinafter, the "Website").

My core commitment: I operate this website independently as a personal showcase. I do not sell, rent, or monetize your data in any way. My sole objective in collecting any information is to understand how users interact with the design and content, allowing me to continuously improve the website's usability, accessibility, and performance.

1. Data Controller

For the purposes of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the data controller responsible for this Website is:

2. What Data is Collected and Why

This Website is engineered to minimize data collection. There are no registration forms, user databases, or marketing newsletters. The only data processed falls into two categories:

A. Browsing and Usage Data (Via Cookies and Similar Technologies)

  • What it is: Anonymous or pseudonymized information about how you interact with the site (e.g., time spent, clicks, scrolling behavior, general device/browser type, and rough geographic region).
  • Purpose: To perform statistical analysis and generate heatmaps that help me evaluate the effectiveness of the User Interface (UI), accessibility, and overall technical performance.
  • Consent: This data is only collected if you explicitly grant permission by clicking "Accept" on the initial cookie consent banner.

B. Voluntary Contact Data

  • What it is: If you choose to contact me by clicking the email links (mailto:), your default email client will open.
  • Purpose: To read and reply to your professional inquiries or feedback. Your email address will never be added to any mailing list.

C. Regarding the Resume (CV) Download

The PDF file available for download on this Website is a clean, static document. It contains no tracking scripts, tracking pixels, or any technology designed to monitor who downloads the file or when.

3. Third-Party Services

To keep this portfolio fast, secure, and analytically useful, I rely on select external service providers. Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA) under secure legal frameworks (such as the Data Privacy Framework).

  • Hosting and Infrastructure (Render): The Website is hosted on Render's servers. For strict security reasons and to prevent malicious attacks (e.g., DDoS), their servers may temporarily log your IP address.
  • Web Typography (Google Fonts): To ensure proper visual rendering of the typography, this site uses Google Fonts. When these fonts load, your browser establishes a connection to Google's servers, meaning Google temporarily receives your IP address.
  • Web Analytics (Google Analytics 4 & ContentSquare): If (and only if) you accept analytical cookies, these services are activated. Google Analytics aggregates traffic data, and ContentSquare helps me understand visual and kinematic navigation (scrolls, clicks).
  • External Links: This site includes links to external platforms (such as LinkedIn, GitHub, YouTube, or Figma). Clicking them will take you outside this Website. Those platforms operate under their own privacy policies, for which I am not responsible.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Your data is processed based on the following legal grounds under the GDPR:

  1. Explicit Consent: For the activation of analytical tracking scripts (Google Analytics and ContentSquare).
  2. Legitimate Interest: To ensure network security and the correct technical display of the Website (Render hosting and Google Fonts requests), as well as to reply to emails you voluntarily send me.

5. Data Retention

  • Analytics Data: Statistical data collected by analytics tools is kept for the minimum period required (typically up to 14 months) and is strictly disassociated from personal identities.
  • Email Communications: Emails received are kept only as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry and maintain a professional contact history, unless you request their deletion.

6. Protection of Minors

This professional portfolio is directed exclusively at an adult audience and corporate institutions. I do not knowingly collect data from minors.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under European regulations, you have control over your data. You may exercise the following rights at any time:

  • Right of Access & Rectification: To know what data I hold about you and ask for corrections.
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): To request the deletion of your data (e.g., email threads).
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You can revoke your decision regarding cookies at any time simply by clearing your browser's cookies for this site.

Note on Anonymous Data (Article 11 GDPR): Because the analytics data collected via Google Analytics and ContentSquare is anonymous, I cannot technically identify your specific browsing session in my dashboard. Therefore, I cannot fulfill access or deletion requests for specific analytical data. To "delete" or stop this tracking, you simply need to clear your cookies.

To exercise your rights regarding direct communications (emails), please contact me at manuel.hortelano.rodriguez@gmail.com. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD - Agencia Española de Protección de Datos) if you believe your rights have been violated.
